Land Acquisition for Green Corridors
Some forests cannot be restored later. They must be protected today.
Standing Forest is ALUME's ongoing effort to reunite a landscape broken into fragments. We acquire vulnerable land, reforest the gaps between legally protected areas, and integrate people as guardians, researchers, neighbours, and participants in a living corridor. Where property lines divide the map, we restore continuity to the forest.
The Opportunity
Thirteen hectares with landscape-scale consequences.
The first step is to acquire a contiguous 13-hectare property beside Fazenda ALUME. Bringing it together with the 42 hectares already under ALUME stewardship would establish the first protected link in a much larger green corridor.
The result would be a continuous 55-hectare landscape where forest protection, assisted natural regeneration, agroforestry, scientific monitoring, and environmental education can reinforce one another over the long term.
The value of this acquisition is not measured by area alone. It lies in what the land connects, what future fragmentation it prevents, and what becomes possible once the territory can be managed as one living system.
More than 100 additional hectares are available for acquisition around this landscape. Securing them would transform separate forest fragments into a permanent green corridor—expanding habitat, protecting water, and preventing strategic land from being lost to future conversion.
| Landscape | Role |
|---|---|
| 13 hectares | Strategic contiguous property proposed for acquisition and permanent protection. |
| 42 hectares | Fazenda ALUME territory already under long-term regenerative stewardship. |
| 55 hectares | One connected landscape for conservation, restoration, research, and learning. |
| 100+ hectares | Available for strategic acquisition to expand the protected landscape into a continuous green corridor. |
The Conservation Case
Connectivity is the intervention.
Southern Bahia holds some of the Atlantic Forest's richest remaining biodiversity, yet much of it survives in disconnected fragments. Even healthy forest can become ecologically fragile when wildlife, seeds, water, and genetic diversity can no longer move through the landscape.
The proposed acquisition lies within a wider mosaic of forest remnants and protected landscapes. Securing this link would reduce pressure on a vulnerable edge and strengthen continuity between habitats across the region.
Standing Forest responds to the pressures that make fragmentation permanent:
- Deforestation and conversion for agriculture.
- Hunting, wildlife trafficking, and disturbance at forest edges.
- Water contamination and disruption of local hydrological cycles.
- Increasing climate pressure on already isolated habitats.

Biodiversity at Stake
A corridor for species with nowhere else to go.
ALUME research identifies where protection and restoration will have the greatest impact. Long-term monitoring measures whether the corridor is bringing threatened wildlife, native plants, and pollinators back.

Why Acquisition
Permanent protection requires permanent tenure.
Short-term agreements can support conservation, but they cannot remove the risk of future sale, subdivision, or land-use change. Acquisition places the territory under long-term institutional stewardship and allows one coherent management plan to extend across the full landscape.
Once secured, the land can be protected immediately while restoration progresses where needed. Native forest recovery, water protection, habitat connectivity, research, and responsible community participation can then be planned in decades rather than funding cycles.
Protection comes first. Everything else grows from that certainty.
From Acquisition to Stewardship
Protection begins on the day the land is secured.
Standing Forest turns a land purchase into a long-term conservation programme through five connected stages.
| Stage | What it enables |
|---|---|
| Secure | Complete the legal transfer and establish durable institutional safeguards. |
| Protect | Define boundaries, install essential signage, and manage access and immediate risks. |
| Restore | Combine assisted natural regeneration with native planting, soil recovery, and water protection. |
| Learn & Share | Monitor biodiversity, develop the native plant nursery, and involve researchers, schools, and communities. |
| Integrate People | Use regenerative socio-environmental architecture and biophilic design to establish a responsible human presence. Residents, workers, researchers, and local partners become active guardians of the land, strengthening daily stewardship and deterring illegal hunting, logging, occupation, and other threats. |
Governance
A forest protected for generations.
ALUME will hold and steward the territory through transparent institutional governance, documented financial management, legal safeguards, and partnerships suited to long-term conservation.
The programme is designed to combine ecological responsibility with meaningful human participation. Researchers, local communities, educators, volunteers, and conservation partners can contribute knowledge and care without weakening the land’s permanent protective purpose.
Standing Forest is not an isolated project. It provides the living foundation for restoration, monitoring, education, culture, and regenerative enterprise across ALUME’s integrated model.

How to Support
Help turn a vulnerable boundary into a protected corridor.
Support can fund the acquisition itself or the first measures required to protect, restore, and monitor the land once it is secured.
Individuals
Every protected corridor begins with people choosing to act before the land is lost. Individuals and families can contribute to the first acquisition, sponsor part of the wider corridor, create a legacy gift, or introduce Standing Forest to others who can help.
Your support turns vulnerable land into forest that can remain protected, restored, and alive for generations.
Foundations & Institutional Partners
Foundations, family offices, conservation funds, and institutional partners can finance land acquisition, restoration, research, or long-term stewardship through a clear, place-based route to measurable ecological impact.
Detailed budgets, legal documentation, implementation plans, and technical materials are available during partnership development.
Businesses & Environmental Compliance
Businesses and rural landholders can turn environmental commitments or regulatory obligations into a living Atlantic Forest corridor. Through ALUME’s curation, partners can explore more than 100 hectares for potential Environmental Compensation or Legal Reserve solutions.
We coordinate land identification, conservation stewardship, and due-diligence documentation. Eligibility and official approval remain subject to legal and technical review by the competent authorities.
